Description
Number of Tests Included:
Single blood test measuring interferon-gamma response to TB antigens.
What is a TB GOLD Test?
A modern TB blood test that measures interferon-gamma release by white blood cells when exposed to TB-specific proteins. It helps identify TB infection with high sensitivity and specificity.
Purpose of the Test:
Detect latent TB infection
Support diagnosis of active TB (along with other tests)
Screen healthcare workers or high-risk individuals
Check TB exposure in close contacts
Evaluate patients before immunosuppressive therapy (e.g., steroids, biologics)
Who Should Get This Test?
Individuals exposed to TB patients
Healthcare workers
People with chronic cough, weight loss, or fever
Individuals starting immunosuppressive medicines
People with positive Mantoux test needing confirmation
Individuals with BCG vaccination (TB GOLD is more accurate)
Components of the Test:
Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA)
TB antigen response
Nil (control) value
Mitogen (positive control)
Understanding the Test Report:
Positive → TB infection likely (latent or active)
Negative → No TB infection detected
Indeterminate → Repeat test needed (immune suppression or sample issue)
A positive TB GOLD test cannot differentiate between active and latent TB. Other tests (X-ray, sputum, CBNAAT) are required.
Preparation and Procedure:
Routine blood draw
No fasting required
Avoid delays in sample transport (test is time-sensitive)
How is the Test Done?
Blood is mixed with TB antigens in special tubes. The immune response (interferon-gamma level) is measured in the laboratory.
Best Time for Test:
Anytime; recommended soon after suspected exposure or before starting immunosuppressive treatment.
Booking and Checking Reports:
You can book the TB GOLD test via SDL, arrange home blood collection, and view your digital report online.
