Description

Number of Tests Included:
Single blood test measuring glucose 1 hour after taking glucose drink.

What is a GCT Test?
A screening test during the 24–28 weeks of pregnancy to determine how well the body handles sugar. If results are high, a confirmatory OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test) is advised.

Purpose of the Test:

  • Identify high-risk pregnancies

  • Prevent pregnancy complications related to high sugar

  • Ensure mother and baby’s health

Who Should Get This Test?

  • Pregnant women with obesity, PCOS, or family history of diabetes

  • Women with previous history of gestational diabetes

  • Those with a history of large baby (>4 kg)

Components of the Test:

  • Blood glucose level measured 1 hour after drinking 50g glucose solution

Understanding the Test Report:

  • <140 mg/dL → Normal

  • 140–199 mg/dL → Borderline; may need OGTT

  • ≥200 mg/dL → High; likely gestational diabetes (confirmation needed)

Preparation and Procedure:

  • No fasting required

  • Drink 50g glucose solution

  • Blood drawn exactly 1 hour later

How is the Test Done?
A blood sample is analyzed using biochemical glucose measurement tools after glucose intake.

Best Time for Test:
